This is a day to cerebrate the girl child. And to honor their efforts towards the world, This year’s theme was “Digital Generation our Generation”.
As Elite youth of Uganda on this day we conducted an outreach to empower the girl child economically, empower her on making choices over her body through Sexual reproductive healthy services and rights through teaching her on different family planning methods and went ahead sensitized girls and empowered them to always be victims of peace in their families and advocate against sexual gender based violence.
This was during the International girls day. We had an outreach in Namatala where we managed to meet and train over 50 girls and young mothers, through liquid soap, we did family planning and SGBV advocacy. Our objective was the empower the girl child economically and and enlighten them about family planning to beat out the myths surrounding family planning. In this event we had more entities join us like send a girl and Mbale network of young people living with HIV/AIDs.
We implore all stakeholders like the government, NGOs and different responsible offices to initiate programs that aim at protecting the girl child against violence of any kind, offering scholar ships to the girl child in a bid to the saying
” if you educate a girl you be educating the whole world”
Girls in this current situation of the lock down are so vulnerable, under going several problems like early and Un wanted pregnancies, Sexual gender violence, menstrual challenges among many that are pushing them to opt for dangerous options like prostitution to get money and provide for their basic needs.
This rings a bell to many state actors to rise up and take on the mantle to protect the girl child in these very hard situations
